Rear end shunts and the hunt for an Outer Valance

#1 Post by Julian B 1972 »

Hi,

Usually I'm here posting a minor/naive question to those much more knowledgeable, but sadly a couple of weeks ago my MK2 2000 received a rear shunt. Nobody hurt, (my five year old was asleep in the seat beside me and didn't even realise it had happened) and entirely the other parties fault, and all admitted by the third party so this all is at least a blessing.

The car however took quite a clout but is entirely repairable and will need quite a few replacement parts - rear bumper, light panel a lower valance etc. Prior to the accident the car was, whilst not concours, very good so I'm hopeful that the cars value will cover the cost of works required.

So at present am working with my local garage to source parts /prices to give to my insurers.

The biggest obstacle is sourcing the outer rear valance. Earlpart quote this item (£344), my garage has spoken to them this week, and they have the tooling to remanufacture the item, but no stock at present. This is as near as we have got, all the other usual suspects Rimmers, Chris Witor, Canley etc, have drawn a blank.

Whilst there is still quite a long journey before the car is back on the road the rear valance is the first big obstacle. So any thoughts? Anyone got one stuffed away in a shed?

Thats all for now, probably more questions as I try to get this resolved.

The usual story ......! :? Will never get made - why do you think LLoyd has had to go to the trouble of investigating having wing repair sections made.

Keep an eye open on ebay etc., or this Forum request may come up with one. If not you may have to resort to getting a good one taken off a scrapper.

There are 'end of life' cars around which it is impossible/not viable to save.

I have both of those panels in stock. Perhaps Lloyd could get these made aswell.

And don't forget, even if the insurance company write the car off, you can keep the salvage and receive a reduced payment instead.

Your car is most certainly not and 'end of life' car and considering it is a rare early estate it has to be worth £700 or offers in my opinion, and that would be without the repair sections. Lloyd though it was worth this and it is unfortunate that his sudden change in circumstances forced him to have to give up on the deal.

An 'end of life' car is one that is seriously rotten which from your pictures yours most certainly is not. If your car is not worth saving I am afraid that we should give up on the idea of the SOT (Save our Triumphs).

hi julian,

sorry to hear about your woes and glad it was nothing more serious as your daughter was in the car !!

i am looking into getting these panels done, as i do intend to be able to supply all panels that us t2000 owners need, and as they are rear sections that do take a bang now and again, there is a possible market for them.

i"ll have a word with lee and see what we can do, although the complexity of the light panel may deem it financially unviable :?
