Does anyone know if the MK2 PI should have a sound deadening pad under the bonnet, similar to that on the Stag? If so, is it moulded or just felt. I\'ve had 2 Pis but neither had a pad.
Thanks

According to my book full of old road tests, the mk2 PI did have sound deadening on the inside of the bonnet.

My 1972 PI was under three years old when I bought it but there was no sound deadening blanket and no sign of one having been fitted.  Perhaps it was an optional extra?
From memory of others I have seen on our cars, the blanket was moulded and held in place by rods that went side-to-side.  Four plastic clips that fitted into holes in the bonnet strengtheners supported the rods.  The ends of the rods were possibly held by being trapped under the side flanges of the bonnet.

The pictures I have are of a 1969 mk2 Pi - they show individual pads, I assume glued in place between the bonnet stiffening members.  It was highlighted because the sound deadening was fouling the radiator top hose.
The car was a long term test car for Motor magazine and I suppose may have been fitted with a few extras to get a more favourable review!
I\'d get some soundproofing from a scrappie and adapt it to fit

The car I best recall with soundproofing was from 1974 or later and the blanket was definitely moulded.  It was made of a semi-rigid felt-like material, about 10mm thick I should say but, I think, thinner where it passed over the radiator hose.
Square pads with an adhesive backing used to be available from motor factors (and probably still are) but they were to stop panels drumming rather than soundproofing against airborne noise.  They were usually for doors and roof but might be OK for bonnets so long as the adhesive doesn\'t soften and let them fall off.  On the other hand, the bonnet on our cars shouldn\'t suffer much from drumming as it is well braced.
