Our new MK1 !!

#1 Post by Cheesy »

I have posted this in the "Introduce Yourself" section because it's so long since I posted on the forum, I thought this was probably the best place!

We have just bought a MK1 2000 Automatic! Some of you will probably recognise the car. :D

This weekend (weather allowing) I will be servicing and tuning, and converting to negative earth in preparation for an alternator upgrade.

Hi Mark, nice car, does this mean that Horatio is moving on? Or will he stay to remind you of the advances made by Triumph when they brought the mk2 out

And don't forget, white mk1 autos can be a curse, Mr.Godfrey has fallen foul to this over the years, when I saw him at Stoneleigh I swear his left leg was starting to whither and die.
Good job he has a manual estate now to build that leg back up again. Don't forget, use it or lose it

Thanks Colin! :D :D

Mixed emotions, but Horatio will be moving on. I don't have the time (or spare cash) to even contemplate owning two. :? The intention is for the MK1 to be a car to use rather than a car to polish.

However, I need to get the MK1 ready for towing. I picked up a towbar from Lee Godfrey (thanks Lee!) that needs fitting, along with an alternator upgrade. Unfortunately I think the lack of a transmission cooler will prove to be more of a problem (I have asked a question about that in the Transmission section).

Many thanks for your advice, I shall keep a close eye on any limb shrinkage issues..... :)

Well I can't comment directly on the transmission cooler on the mk1 but years ago Dad had an E30 BMW 320i auto, we fitted the cooler and Dad did say the improvement towing was huge. So purely on that basis I would suggest (a manual o/d conversion!) a cooler for peace of mind at least.
The mk1 should be a better towcar than the mk2, more torque and power, less overhang at the rear etc, etc.
The sliding sunroof is nice in the summer too.
