Mk1or Mk2 Fuel pump
I\'ve been having trouble with the fuel pump on my Mk1 2000 and wanted to refurbish it using a kit.
The car originally had the glass bowled version but has picked up a later model steel capped type somewhere along the line.
Does this make any difference or does the kit do for both types.

The official workshop manual from 1964 shows only glass-bowled pumps. I suspect that the metal-capped ones are aftermarket replacements from a different manufacturer.
The kit may service both types because the manufacturer of the aftermarket pumps would obviously prefer not to change the valve and strainer specifications.
However the aftermarket spec could have been changed to avoid IPR (intellectual property right) problems. Firms like Quinton Hazell used to do this (usually with inferior results!). Sometimes QH changed the whole design, other times just the outward shape.
My guess is that the kit will service both types. Hopefully someone can confirm this.
David.
