Different Mk 2 wheels and trims?

#1 Post by sally »

I have had a set of brand new wheel trims for a bog standard Triumph 2000 Mk 2, in the shed, for about 20 years. Decided to polish them up and fit them to the car (they are mint) only to discover that they don't fit - and stand out proud from the wheel. The new trims are the ones WITHOUT the Triumph badge in the middle. The trims on the car do have badges and have a much shallower lip on them. I am assuming at some point Triumph changed the wheels slightly, and if so when? I know that the car has had alloy wheels on it in the past and the current wheels are not it's own original wheels. It is a 1973 ( M reg) estate car.

Any light that can be shed is much appreciated!

Interesting.... I bought a set of new, old stock trims a couple of years ago, again, the original style without the Triumph logo in the centre. I'm almost certain that my car has its original wheels and I have the same problem where some of the trims sit proud of the wheel by about a quarter-inch. I have found that by swapping them around between the wheels I can get more to fit flush. The trims that were originally on the car all fit flush, but they are getting tatty; some are bent and they all rattle (sounds like a Morris dance as you drive along), hence the decision to swap them for NOS ones.
