I stand corrected on this one. Checked in my library/archive and in one of my SAAB books it does indeed say that the engine fitted to the SAAB 96 V4 was the German version of the engine

. The Sonnett was a sports car and not really suited to this sort of event ...... though a couple of daft b*****s tried it in a beach buggy!

The Escort screen in the PI was something Jonathan and I discussed a couple of months ago. It was an emergency bodge when the Culcheth/Syer car damaged it's screen and after removal the mechanics found that the spare screen in their set of spares was for a 1300. Classic rally trick to make a loose or poorly fitting screen fit ......... loads of tank tape

You can actiually see this in some of the later pics of the car!
My first clue - Think of the fact that it was three cars.
