I HAVE TWO OLD TYPE FRONT SUSPENSION LEGS, WITH GOOD MONROE INSERTS.
THE LOWER SPRING SUPPORT COLLAR IS COMPLETELY \"CIRCULAR\", i.e. IT HAS NO \"CUT -AWAY,\" WHERE THE LEG IS CLOSE TO THE TYRE INSIDE WALL.
CAN I HACKSAW/FILE OFF METAL , TO MAKE A CUT-AWAY?
I WANT TO FIT THESE LEGS WITH NEW UPRATED \"WITOR\" SPRINGS, NEW GAITORS AND RUBBERS, TO MY 1977 2.5S ESTATE.
WITHOUT THIS MODIFICATION, I THINK THAT THE LOWER LEG WOULD BE TOO CLOSE TO THE INSIDE TYRE WALL....THE ORIGINAL LEGS/INSERTS ARE SHOT, SO I CANT REUSE THESE.
ANY HELP/ADVICE ,WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
REGARDS,.......BARRY.
P.S...MY HOME COMPUTER IS U/S, BUT I WILL CHECK FOR REPLIES.

Alec,
Suspension legs modified and fitted, excellent WITOR springs, steering is much better, and car feels much better at the front end!
      Thanks for your advice,
         Regards,
                   Barry.

FOR ALEC,
One of the suspension legs that I fitted, seems to have altered.
The NYLOC top nut on the strut, has moved further up the suspension turret, and is now almost touching the underside of the rubber blanking plug!
Have taken the leg off the car, and re-assembled everything carefully.
When refitted, the NYLOC top nut is exactly the same hieght as the nut on the opposite leg. After a short test drive, the NYLOC nut has moved back to it\'s higher position!
I had to re-use the ORIGINAL NYLOC NUTS on both struts, as the new nuts from a supplier, were METRIC, and would not fit.
The car suspension has no knocks and runs smoothly. Can you suggest a remedy, or should I leave things as they are?
Regards,
           Barry.

Hello Barry,
you will need to have a look at the top mount. Probably the rubber has
lost it\'s bond with the housing, or the steel insert into which the rod
passes through. It should be obvious with a close look, and comparing
it with the opposite leg.
Don\'t leave it for too long.
FOR ALEC,
ALEC, you were right about the top mounting rubber losing it,s bond, but this was only noticeable when the leg was in the vice, and stripped down!
Once again, thanks for your help. If you,re at the National at Hurley, maybe we can have a chat? (Pimento red 2.5S MK2 ESTATE.).
Regards,
         Barry.
