Hello,
Mine doesn’t work. I had a quick look and opened it up to remove a shower of flakes of old white paint.
Generally though it looks great and nothing corroded inside.
On the back I have a stray capacitor connected to nothing. Could this be part of the problem? No idea what it came off, or if it was even connected…

Re: Revcounter
Hello Simon,
the capacitor is not required, it may have been connected to a white wire as suppression for a radio?
Yours is the current sense type rather than voltage, with the feed to the coil (white) passing in and out of the meter.
Check for voltage on the green wire and that the earth is sound where it connects to the body of the car. I've never played around with the instrument workings myself so can't really advise further, although you could remove the face and see if the needle moves.

Re: Revcounter
Thanks Alec, the needle moves fine, so hopefully will track down the culprit (I suspect its coil wire) this weekend.
Re: Revcounter
Simon,
it is unlikely to be the coil wire as the car runs. Internally it is a single coil which is sensed and if you notice, the two white wires have a male and female connector for polarity. I would say the actual workings are faulty as the needle is free.
There are a few specialists who could repair it but I would look for a good second hand unit.

Re: Revcounter
Are you still using points and condensor? If you have electronic ignition, most render the tacho inoperative. The only one I think does work is the Aldon Ignitor kit.

Re: Revcounter
I have good old fashioned points. I am still hoping it is a bad connection somewhere as the counter is in good visual condition.
I don’t yet know exactly which wires from the engine go to the counter. I’m assuming white wire next to to the number 6 in photo..
