I’ve got a 2500S automatic that every now and then when starting makes a death noise. From what I can tell it’s the starter motor not engaging properly. The flex drive plate seems to have the chamfers on the wrong side for the starter motor to engange easily (towards the back).
It has the pre-engaged starter with the solonoid on it which I believe is the correct starter which needs the chamfer to the front.
A few questions - Have I got the wrong flex drive plate (for inertia starter) and can you get one for a pre-engaged starter? Can the flex drive plate be put on the wrong way around?
To fit the older inertia starter I’ll have to fit a seperate solonoid? Not sure if any of that makes sense…
Death rattle on trying to start
Re: Death rattle on trying to start
I don't have an automatic Triumph personally, but as you have observed the starter ring appears to be the wrong way round. I expect an owner of an auto will be along soon with their opinions but to make a proper assessment all the components will have to be removed. Regarding replacement parts I find that it's always best sticking with original spec type components. Any auto owners out there ?

Um - an Auto owner is here..... a bit late.....
can you explain this 'death rattle' a bit more....just had mine done, i hope......do you have a section of teeth missing from the ring gear, and what did you hear with your ' death rattle'.....
