Door Weather Strips

I\'m about to strip my estate back to the bare metal for a respray, and ideally I would prefer to remove the door weatherstrips. I have never really had success with these in the past, can anyone reccomend replacement strips that actually work and fit, and is there a foolproof way of fitting them? Not had much luck previously with the bent metal under the clips!!

Brian,
strips are available from most specialists, although they may need trimming to fit.
Like you I have struggled with limited success to fit them with the correct clips. I don\'t use clips any longer, but drill the strips every few inches then with the strip in place, drill the door through the holes in the strip and use self tappers. Obviously, as you are drilling in the window aperture, the screws go in at an angle but it does work, Astons fitted the door strips that way on the DB5, and if it\'s good enough for them then it is good enough for me.

A bit of a bodge method here guys, but.....................
If you are happy to leave the plastic clips in place, you can simply remove the black plastic end cap from the chrome strip and slide the strip out and off.
To refit, line up the first clip and slide it all back on!
Works a treat!

Problem solved! I\'ve had no luck at all previously, particularly with weatherstrips and those awful clips. Does any particular supplier sell a good product, or are they all the same?

Hello all,
I now see that we are at cross purposes, I was refering to the weather strip that seals against the door glass, not the trim strips.
The plastic clips will really need to be removed after the stainless trim is off otherwise you will never get a good paint job. New clips are (were) available from Rimmers and dead easy to fit. (The old ones will not re-use satisfactorily.)

Last time I need a couple of new clips I got them from Chris Witor. They were a pig to fit but them trim stays on!
As far as new trims go, forget it, it\'s second hand ones if you need any. try TriumphLand in Doncaster

I did mean the weather strip between door and glass! Mine are hard and no longer flexible.

Hello Brian,
OK, refer back to post number one. It does work and relatively easier than the original clips. I did even try and make a tool to pull them into position, but gave up, too much hassle.
