Inner Wheel Arch Repair Panels.

Seeing as everyone will hopefully have a nice new pair of wings for their car whats the best way to sort out the inners ?
I really don't know what state mine are in yet and it might just be a case of doing some repairs I think thats unlikely though.

ive had a costing for inner outer arch bowls, ball park was £290 each.

i didnt follow up on it, as i deemed it not cost effective as repairing existing ones on your cars is not that bigger task, but if there are enough of you that want me to follow up on them, let me know and i will.

That seems a lot especially if it's just the very edge and lip thats corroded and it isn't seen either. Hopefully localised repairs will be enough, I will have to wait and see, thanks.

I have been led to believe that Stag inner wheel arches are similar (or even the same). As these are available at £80 for a complete outer bowl, or £52-50 for a repair panel, even if they don't fit exactly, they may be a good starting point.

I think I may be investigating this route when I come to sort my PI.

I wonder if thats a left over from using a saloon as a basis for the convertable body. Handy if they are useable though.

I believe that one of the Triumph engineers was quoted (by Graham Robson?) as saying that they had originally hoped to use modified 2000 pressings for the much of the Stag structure but, in the end, so many changes were required as to make all-new tooling a better proposition.

I believe that there are a small number of shared pressings, but don't know whether the front wheel arch bowls feature amongst them...

The part numbers (from the 2000 and Stag parts book) are different and they certainly look different. However, the point was that at that price they could be a good starting point rather than making one from scratch.

When the new wings arrive, maybe I'll get a Stag repair panel and just see how well it matches the curves of the 2000 wing.

I too have read that bit about virtually no panels in common. I can believe it too!

I know in the past people have managed to use Volvo 240 rear wheel arch repair panels to fix MK2's, I wonder if there is an inner arch repair for them that might be close-ish.

I can see myself wandering around classic shows with a 2000 front arch template checking all the cars.

I take it you're aware of the inner wheel arch repair sections that Rimmers do? I got a pair in their New Year sale (VAT free prices) which cost me £64 each -- but they have gone up since then and when you add on the VAT... :shock:

I haven't had an opportunity to check them out properly yet (long story :( ) but on the basis of a cursory trial fit they seem OK. You get the lip plus a fair bit more but they are basically just the outer 1/3rd or so of the inner wheel arch - and they don't extend right to the bottom of the inner wheel arch which are actually the worst bits on my car.

I believe they're made by Radford Panels (but don't know this for certain).

Rimmer parts numbers RM179 and RM180.
