Early MK2 Front Wings
Hi all, a bit of an odd question but did any of the early build 1969 MK2 Triumph's come with Mk1 type front arches?

Re: Early MK2 Front Wings
Nope.
MKI had MKI wings, MKII had MKII wings............
Some people in the early days used to repair MKII wings using MKI arches or Volvo 144 rears as they fitted, but didn't have the correct profile.
This was before MKII wings were re-produced and not available....... just like now!!

Thanks for the reply, it looks as though it has had an early days repair then!

All mk2 had stalk operated dip. Sounds like it burnt out and someone fitted a mki floor mount as easier or cheaper.

Can't see that would have been easier, you would have to separate the dipswitch wiring from the indicator/flash/dip loom and re-route it to the floor.Alan Chatterton wrote:All mk2 had stalk operated dip. Sounds like it burnt out and someone fitted a mki floor mount as easier or cheaper.
My 2500 is a '69 build, and the only Mk1 carry-overs I came across were static seat belts, non heated rear window and an escutcheon (flap !) over the boot lock.

Re: Early MK2 Front Wings
Perhaps the original owner had it fitted as he didn't like this new-fangled column mounted dip switch?
Assume he was from t'wrong side 'o' Pennines then?

It did indeed, John preferred it apparently. Definitely a retro fit though.CRAJ wrote:I believe when rob baked had John cottrells white mm2 that John put a floor dipper in his car
Before my Grandad died he often talked about the bodges that went on at Canley, using up batches of old components and trim etc. The Mk1 type boot lock on the early mk2's was a common one. I know of one car that left the factory with mk1 door handles. Don't imagine any left the factory with the foot dipper though as it would have been too much hassle, might have been a dealer fit option though

Re: Early MK2 Front Wings
My old 1970 Mk2 had the Mk1 boot lock. I thought the changing the boot lock to the later type was a mid production decision to prevent people from smashing the number plate light lens when they shut the boot with the key in the lock (done it.....).
