Thanks for the clarification Colin.
Unfortunately, on the 23rd I have a chap coming to look at my XJS which I hope he will buy so that I can have some funds. As much as I like the look of the Mk2 as it reminds me of the Stag I owned, I fully appreciate that the reality of availability is a different issue. As a general rule, is there a model that tends to be more readily available than the others ?.
Thanks.
Barry.
Hello.
Re: Hello.
Well IMHO the mk2 is probably more readily available than the mk1, which will suit you. Mk1s, especially estates, are pretty thin on the ground.
Mk2s were made for longer with estates being produced straight away, but all estates were handbuilt, at least at the rear, by carbodies and were produced in significantly lower numbers.
194978 mk2s in total with only 14731 estates, only just over 7.5%!
In all honesty you are probably in for a wait, unlike Stags (for example) they're wont be half a dozen to look at every week.
We looked at 1 car only and bought it when we were after our estate, we really wanted a tax free pi, but hey ho. There isn't the choice so the normal rules of not buying the first car you see, can go out of the window.
So to sum up, saloons are more readily available!
But estates are well worth hunting out, patience is a virtue you know.

Re: Hello.
It also depends on what you are after eg full resto, slight resto or one tip top car.................
I know were there are estates both MK1 and MK2 in various conditions but as Colin say's you cannot afford to pick and choose I'm afraid,as the cars are just not out there. Even the "banger boys" are struggling to fine them and will pay upto £500 for a rotten shell.
Also know were some saloons are for sale but these are mainly MK1's (best shape IMO............
) ..............when you in the market feel free to ask.

Re: Hello.
Been to 2 car shows this weekend. One organised by St.Peter's Church at Harold Wood Essex. There were a couple of Mk2 saloons. One black PI and a TC in Tahiti blue. Today we went to a car show at South Weald Park, Brentwood. Saw a very nice Mk2 in yellow. Not sure if these belong to local members. No estates to look at unfortunately.
Enjoy the good weather.

Barry.
