Re: Who drives what?

About time I gave an update on my driving options!

Daily drivers are either the PI saloon or the Disco.

The PI is sadly for sale to help fund my other projects (though if it had been tax exempt Steph would have snaffled it).

The Disco was acquired blind off ebay cheap (£400 buy it now with a host of off roading goodies) with the plan to break it. Decided that as the sills etc were sound and 'just' needed a new boot floor, and having had all its mechanical components repaired/replaced in the previous 15K miles it would be worth sorting out. Bad move  ...... found the bits of the body adjacent to the floor had also gone as well as hidden bits that do not usually go - wish I had put the time into sorting the more practical (for my purposes) Rangie LSE (perhaps even fitted the Chevvy overfinch engine etc. that I just happen to have kicking around :? ). Mind you apart from the work, after selling off the offroading goodies the car owes me cash wise just £200 :D Ideal as a tow hack and to replace the LR90 200tdi (with many offroading bits and other upgrades) which to be honest was too small for my needs (four dogs and a wife) and had degenerated into no more than a towing hack - deserves to be more than that and is itself up for sale.

Also use the World Cup Land Crab when I feel like it.

Steph drives a Subaru Justy as a cheap runner to work. We did have two other Scoobies - Legacy 2.5 Quad Cam estate (fabulous car) and 2l Impreza but both, after hard lives, would cost more than justified to sort out so they were broken and the bits not sold went to the great scrapyard in the sky.

All my other cars are projects in waiting............ Keep me busy now that I am an OAP

My fleet has changed a little since I first posted on this thread.

An update:
1978 Stag - daily driver covering 1,000 miles per month. I love it!
1872 PI Estate - Summer use only, I don't even like to get it wet!!
1968 2000 - Gets used at weekends but now really needs the major rebuild that I put off in 2004!

That's it for me I don't have a modern car but Sally does have a VW Passat Diesel.

Ted,

I would love to see pictures of your crabs! Always fancied one to build as a rally replica, but as sadly, so few come up for sale I would feel rather bad building one.

My current fleet (other than the PI)

1968 Singer Chamois Coupe - finished restoration in August - won best Singer Chamois at Imp National
Image

1969 Commer PB Autosleeper - most recent purchase - currently having engine repaired ready for the summer
Image

1968 Sunbeam Stiletto - currently on the tilter having the underseal removed as part of a quick rebuild - pulled out of a lockup last year after being hidden away since 1979
Image Image

1965 Commer Imp Van - the oldest remaining imp van, 29th off the production line - awaiting restoration (maybe this should be in the rare car thread?).

You might notice that all my other vehicles are Rootes - but I do love my PI. :D

I have to admit I have always had a sneaky regard for imps myself and your Chamois looks superb. The Stiletto has all the makings of a fantastic car too, more photos please.

Lovely collection of Imps there and i love the Commer van, that looks very smart. If you ever decide to sell on the commer or the imp van give me a shout, im thinking of getting a classic van of some description and id love either of those.

Unlikely, I'm afraid. I have had the imp van for about 10 years, and will be used for my own business when restored. I just managed to source two new rear wing panels for it - at a cost. The commer is a camper van - so is not really a van. Unfortunately, panel van commers are extremely rare - slightly more common are the Dodge Spacevan version of it - but still not very common. On the commer forum, I think there are about 3 known about. Far more common are the campers - about 50 or so on the forum. Once I have the commer working, it will be used to tow the imp on an A-frame to imp events (the first being in Aberdeenshire in April - don't fancy camping anymore). I don't think it will be that capable of towing the Triumph - and the triumph front bumper is not so easy to remove on your own.

Damn thought you might say that ;) Very nice tho anyway, hopefully my get to see your Commer at a show sometime. My Dad had a Commer panel van in dark red back in the eighties. He was the Spares sec for "that faceless Triumph Club that shall not be named" back then and used it for carting gear to and from shows. I always remember it had sliding doors on the cab which would open and close randomly whenever they felt like it and would happily sever any limbs that got in the way!

There you go Huff - the sliding door panel vans are as rare as rocking horse poo - shame you don't still have it.
