Hi All,
I managed to pick up a Stag...cheap!  Hooray!  I\'ve read that the rear drum set up & front disc set up is a strait swap for better braking....as well as the Brake M/C & maybe even the PDWA.  I\'m planning on upgrading my \'68 2000 mk1 with those bits...plus the wheels.  Any other suspension bits compatible?  Front struts for instance?
Cheers,
Todd Bermudez(United States)

See the thread in Braking systems about upgrading brakes. Yes, Stag brakes fit, make it much better.
Don\'t bother changing the brake Master cylinder over, all it means is that you\'ll have to re pipe the whole car for split braking........not worth it really.
Front struts do fit, but the spring rate are wrong.....so don\'t bother.
Use the engine and gearbox though!!

Hi Todd,
There is quite a lot of commonality, front suspension, rear suspension, fuel tank (if the 2000 is an estate).  As Alan says, spring rates are different, but the bits themselves are useful.  If your 2000 is an auto, the Stag diff is also swappable.  Although the Stag diff is slightly different to the 2000 range (bigger CWP), the ratio is the same as for auto 2000s (and late manual ones).  You have to change the input shaft flange though.  Easy to do as the CWP shimming is not there but further inside the diff!
Y\'know, even the Stag seats might fit!  I think they have a similar runner system.
Have fun with the spanners....
Cheers,
Mike.

Thanks guys
It just so happens mine is a \'68 4 speed with an overdrive box.  I wonder if it would be worth hanging onto the diff & axles?  I have some interest in the entire car...less the wheels & brake bits.
So, you don\'t think it\'s worth plumbing for the Stag M/C?  I haven\'t looked at it yet.  Just figured I\'d be safer with the dual M/C
Cheers,
Todd

The Stag master cylinder has twin outputs to allow for split braking system. I would\'nt bother changing this as you would have to completely re-do all of the brake line (not a nice job!) Yes, it is probably better, but the standard 2000 brake line set up is fine.
The diff from a Stag should be 3.7:1 ratio and is stronger than the 2000 ones, so it might be worth hanging onto.
I would change the brakes (wheels bits only) try the front springs but I think they\'ll be wrong.
Remember if you are putting stag brakes on, you must change to 14\" wheels (Stag ones) \'cos the standard 13\" rims will not fit over the stag brakes as they are much bigger!

Continental (or only french ?) saloons have also a dual brake system, far better in term of security.
TR250, if you still have your Stag engine, please let me know, as i need one for mine, as the hard top back window, thanks.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hi Chris,
I think what\'s left of the Stag(after I get done stealing bits) is spoken for?  Also, I\'m in the States.  Not sure you\'d want to pay shipping for an engine you know nothing about...that I know nothing about for that matter.  It\'s stuck too.  Maybe a bit of Coca Cola will free it up?  I\'ll keep you posted though...should know more this weekend.
Alan, yes, I\'m keeping the Stag Alloys.  Did a little searching on this site when I bought the 2000.  Originally, I was going to go with 15\" wheels, but I think I like the looks of the Stag alloys on the 2000s.
Cheers,
Todd

<IMG>&nbsp;Houps, sorry mate ! I didn\'t realised you are in the USA.
You are right, it will be easier and cheaper to buy one \"motor\" (american term for engine ?) in England....
Cheers,
Chris.
