Sorry I hit the send button too early!

I am on the final straight with my engine assembly. After fitting the bottom pulley, water pump and alternator the pulleys all lined up nicely and I fitted the fan belt and it all looked good. However, when I can to fit the fan blades on to the viscous fan they hit the nose of the water pump. I am unsure if I have missed a spacer on the bottom pulley assembly or I have the incorrect fan blades. The blades are new, brought at a show last year and I have yet to locate the old ones to check. The bottom pulley is the correct PAS type one and I am wondering if I have missed a spacer or I have blades that are too long. I will check how the PAS pump fits tomorrow. Any help appreciated on this. Will try to attach some photos.

Hi John,
I have already messaged you re this issue, but I thought I'd also put it on here - having checked with my S, I don't think the problem lies with any aspect of your component assembly. The water pump pulley depth appears correct and the position / spacing of the fan appears OK too. I think the problem lies with the size of the fan, or being more precise the length of the blades.
It seems like the new fan you have is possibly for a Stag, which I recollect from memory is larger than the S fan. The spacing off the crank pulley appears correct, so I think your issue is purely the wrong size of viscous fan.

Thank you Charles and Johnnydog. You are correct it is the wrong fan. Have managed to dig out the old one and it has smaller blades so will attempt to clean it up. I got the new one from an autojumble and it was marked up with part numbers for our cars. Should have checked! I think it may be for a Stag as you say. Friday was a fluster to get the last bits on so we could move it off the bench ready for the transplant.
