Ok so I have done a search and I think I have read most of the replys.
Can anyone tell me how to remove the hot air valve on the side of the heater box?
while trying to free it off I managed to snap off the tiny little screw that holds the small operating bracket to the valve I can buy a new valve from Chris witor but how does it come out?

Depends how badly stuck it is.
I believe the stag boys have crafted a small puller tool that can work of it isn't too badly seized otherwise it's heater unit out.
Worst case I've had was having to unsolder the matrix pipes and whack it out from behind.

It's easy when you do this. Ha.

Admittedly, it's a very awkward job. The valve on my car has been stuck for as long as I've owned it (1981). I took the easy way out of a gate valve in-line, it's open in winter, closed when it's properly hot weather and just cracked open the rest of the time for a bit of demisting. It would be nice to have it working properly but there you are!

By 'in-line', do you mean that the original valve is present and "stuck" on open or that it is a replacement?

As I have got this job on my "to do list" does it make sense to position the slides either on cold or hot? For a stuck valve I guess it is irrelevant as the slides are unable to operate the wire fixings as the valve is stuck.

Hi, Sorry I've not been quicker.
The original valve to allow the water to flow through the matrix is stuck/siezed in the open position, so I put the gate valve in the pipe at the back of the cylinder head, consequently I can't control it from inside the car. If I had not fitted the gate valve I have hot water flowing through the matrix at all times, and the only thing I could do in summer was to shut the flap to stop the air flow, fortunately those controls still work properly.
I think it was Mike Stevens in his top tips that did this modification, so I copied him.
