A question for the brain trust.

I have been the proud owner of an AMI built 1973 2500TC. Its a hybrid machine from what I can gather.

Commission number: 2MK75649
Engine number: MK1157HE
Cyl Head Pt No. Casting: 312388 / Pt No. Stamped 218226

As I understand, the PI had horrendous issues with the high ambient temps here in Oz (currently 41C at 4.30pm...!). Due to this the Australian Triumph engineering department removed the PI system off the car and installed the carburettors from the 2000TC. Now i am unsure if the head was changed at this time.

I am trying to figure out the actual spec of the engine and is it basically a carbie version of a PI?

Thanks in advance

Chris

I am certain you have researched this before posting your topic, but I can't shed anymore light on what you probably already know. The head no. 218226 is for a carb 2500 engine for the Australian market, for cars assembled by Australian Motor Industries.
I cannot find any reference to the engine no. 'MK' in my books. Are you certain the first letter is 'M'? I appreciate this does tally with the 'MK' in the VIN no.
Maybe some of our Australian members may have more information to assist you.

Johnnydog,

Yes, the engine number is MK1157HE, according to the Triumph register webite, the MK denoted export engines.

Thanks

Chris

I think Leyland replaced the 2500 PI with the S everywhere about this time. S had HS6 carbs and that horrible emission control rubbish which I consigned to the rubbish on two that I have owned. They went much better without them in my opinion.
Tony.

Tony,
I have discovered since this post that AMI took it upon themselves to create the 2500TC in 1973, a year or so before the factory. it has Stromberg 150CDS carbies.
