Radiators in Oz

#1 Post by Llessur »

Have been doing some research into radiators as I think a replacement may be on the cards (haven't quite bought the car yet but I know the rad is pretty flaky and as the car will primarily get used on sunny days I want the cooling system to be tip-top).

I can obviously go down the used route but has anyone in Oz found anyone local (i.e. in the country) who can supply new rads? Have phoned around a classic supplies places and no-one has been able to help.

Have just been quoted about $600 for a recore which is out of the question.

Failing that, has anyone found a modern radiator which can be fitted with a little fettling? I managed to get a MkII Golf GTi rad into my Spitfire a few years ago but haven't read about anyone doing anything similar with the 2000/2500.

Otherwise, do any of our Australian members have any spare radiators in good condition for sale?

Have you tried your local radiator man? In NZ new cores are available, they fit your old tanks. Still not very cheap but better than using s/h ones.

Cheers but I couldn't find it - saw one for a Stag though. Any chance you can share the link or item number?

Have had one quote for a recore - $600. Will ring around for a few more but have a feeling that it'll end up costing more than importing a new one from the UK.
