Police Cars

#1 Post by kevinw »

As the Editor of SIXappeal, I really should know the answer to this one, but at the moment, my archive of magazines is buried under a pile of stuff while we decorate parts of the house, so I'm after a bit of assistance with my enquiries.

The background is that I regularly chat to other magazine authors, both club mags and paid for ones. One has come up with an idea of covering the use of Leyland / BMC / BLMC cars in Police service. In the case of Triumph, that is pretty much exclusively "our" cars, plus the odd experiment with TR4s. Basically, we all help each other out with research where we can.

So.... can any of our longer term members recall any articles in SIXappeal covering our cars in Police service and if so, can you point me to an approximate date?

Also, I know a few Police cars have survived into preservation, so would be interested in contact to current owners, although you might want to do this by PM to avoid putting too much personal information of other people into the public domain.

I've seen photo's of a plod Herald. Probably just one force checking the model out and would just be on loan. That's is one problem - when is a loan car just a wrong portrayal?

The Herald, apparently is a mock up as a Panda car. The owners are a husband and wife, both retired police officers. I've a couple of good pictures of it at a Goodwood Revival track lap several years ago, chasing a gang of rockers on bikes. I think the rockers would have got away on mopeds!!

hi alan,

i really cant remember the chaps name, he lived by roath park, in cardiff and brought both cars direct from the police after they were defunct , so was only the second owner.
