Hello everyone -

I have a 67 TR2000 mk1 in the US. Owned this TR for a long time but its been sitting for years. Car last legally drivable on the street back in 1991.

Okay so working at this step by step. I did some of the basics to prep starting the 2000 - oil change, oil filter, drain fuel, new oil filter, new plug wires, and new distributor cap. Cleaned the plugs - Bosch something can't recall but re-gapped them at .025. I also squirted some oil down each of the spark plug holes in the head (used mystery oil). Hand cranked the radiator fan and it felt smooth.

The 2000 has an electric fuel pump that was installed prior to me owning it. It worked fine back 20 years ago and I get hear it priming with the ignition switch in the secondary position. Fuel is pumping through the line and visible in the clear fuel filter that I installed.

The problem - Lovely Strombergs. I ordered these ZS 150CD's about 15 years ago from Cris Witor's company. Now they have been sitting on the car with fuel in the float bowls as I have started this car every couple of years but not for the last three. When I have the car in ignition switch setting two the fuel flows but is now leading on the rear carb through a tube on right side and out the bottom screw on the front carb. I ordered a set of carb kits and will give it a go on replacing the o-rings and other gaskets.

Looking for any recommendations from others on getting a 2000 back on the road and secondly fixing these carbs. Note the reason I decided to order these Strombers from England 15 years ago because I could purchase them less than any local shop was quoting to rebuild and tune.

Thanks in advance. I'm going to have some questions on the brake and clutch master soon but will come to that subject after I get the 2000 running.

Sounds to me like the float valves in the carbs are sticking and not shutting the fuel off, hence then over flowing.
I would try cleaning the float valves.

Thank you for the reply Alan. Well appreciated. Not too many experts on 2000's in the US.

I purchased a set of rebuild kits today for $40.

Question. Looking at Witor's site there are specific needles for the mk1. Just wondering on the 150CD that I purchased 15 years ago that was a rebuild - how do I know it is the correct carb and setup for a 2000? Now I'm wondering if the needle is the proper one and if the float is setup properly. Any feedback on when I take the carb apart in what to look for?

From Witor's site ...
513709, Needle 7A Stromberg CD 2000 MkI early

Thanks!

I think the needle number is stamped onto the shank of the needle, where it's held in the piston assembly. You should be able to read it OK if you take the needle out.

Setting float height is important on Strombergs. That's done by measuring the height of it WRT the case as I remember. the height is in the manual and is adjusted by bending the tab that rests on the needle valve!

Good luck!

Cheers,
Mike.

You might find the website burlen.co.uk useful (sorry, don't know how to do links). There were three specifications of Zenith Stromburg CD150 fitted to the Mk1 - C1854, 3073 and 3116. Since your car is 1967' it should be fitted with 3116F and 3116R (have you still got the originals?) and therefore the needle should be 6J. The 7A was fitted to C1854 and 3073 according to the website. I think the change to 3116 took place when the Mk1 was face lifted in late 1966.
Hope this helps.
