Re: stoneliegh
This was announced at the recent Standard Triumph forum meeting by Simon Goldsworthy that this would be happening.
The problem is due to falling numbers and the high cost of Stoneleigh, having a Triumph or an MG show is now commercially unviable.
Combining the two shows together gives us several benefits.
1) It allows the show to continue.
2) It allows for something else to look at for us all
3) It allows for more traders to be there, bigger audience, so more chance of traders coming for a bigger audience which might not be worthwhile for a smaller one.
4) This is what is happening, so we should accept it.
5) It gives us all a chance to show the MG bunch how to put on a proper stand !!!
So, we get to keep our show, with twice the potential number of bodies through the door than if we just had a Triumph show.
Also, we gain from the previous weeks "Retro" show, so the cow sheds (clubs still in the cow sheds!) will be heated and carpeted for us, and there is going to be a covered walkway between the two halls so it should keep it much warmer than usual.

Re: stoneliegh
Hmmmmmmmmmm had this conversation with several Triumph freinds and have mixed feelings.
Agree that the numbers are dwindling and this is probably the only feasable way but................. thoughts shared was that the show will probably cater more for the MG cars as there probably more autojumble etc available than for our cars........
Will the entry fee drop now it is joint?.................think not!.
Plus we still in the unheated cowsheds I hear?.........
I along with others, MAY give it the benefit of one try to see how it spans out but I may give it a miss and especially will not be staying over as per last couple of years.
I was thinking about not attending again due to the freezing conditions................just no pleasure IMO.

Re: stoneliegh
As stated, sheds will be carpeted and heated and the doorway covered. Should be warmer!!
Interestingly, figures provided show that more people attended triumph show than mg show. Only about 1000 more, but this shows it shouldn't be mg biased, but fairly even.
We have to try it and support it, then review afterwards.

Re: stoneliegh
An open mind is this the best way to look at Stoneleigh next year.
That is the way we will be treating it.
It's easy to write it off, but wouldn't it be nice to be wrong. More people through the door will improve things with some MG owners able to see the error of their ways
Stoneleigh has been on a decline over recent years, evolution is the only way to keep it going and may bolster it a little. The people who attend (Stoneleigh has always been a social gathering) will only change if individuals dont go and some traders may consider it more worthwhile attending with a potentially bigger audience.
We have reservations too but nobody will know for sure until after the event.
Also something which I don't believe has been mentioned is that each club, both Triumph and MG will be given a set size stand. We have been advised it will hold 3 cars and a gazebo. We may be looking for mk1s and estates only (without towbars) if the stand area is very tight
Colin.

Re: stoneliegh
The idea of a joint show, whilst not ideal must be a way forward, BUT to then limit the space that any club can have can only have a detrimental affect! Three small cars per unit is just plain ridiculous

I wouldnt think so Lee, Amanda and I usually only use the markings of the stand pitch for guidanceleesellars wrote:Looks like mk2s are banned again then

We would love to have your car on the stand there please, is it available?
Besides I'm getting sick of all these mk1s hogging the stands

Re: stoneliegh
I will be free to put my car on stand but I agree that the should be at the minumin of what the club had in precious years if not at least 10. I think we need to show the MG owners the diversity of our cars ie mikes 4by4 estate TCs Ss and PIs.
