Auto Gearbox Slipping

I have a 73 2000 that has done 60,000 mile, it has been stood still for a wail, I have got it running now but the auto gearbox is slipping, I think it is the bands slipping, could this be the case. if so is there any way of tighting the bands without removing the gearbox.

Hi Simon
I haven\'t got a lot af experience with auto boxes but the only time the one on my car played up it was due to low fluid level.
Leaving cars standing always causes problems, sometimes things go off after driving for a while.
I expect someone else has had a similar problem and knows the cure.
