MK2 but registered as a 1967 car!! Sounds like it might have an interesting history. Anyone know anything about it?

It dosent sound right..how can it be a tr7 test bed

I think some were used as tr7 test beds de bumpered seats removed etc until roughly the same weight as a tr7 then fitted with tr engine and run for such things as emmision testing pretty sure there is a photo of one being used on canley classics site in one of the blogs by dave pearson.

The most peculiar part is, according to the DVLA, the registration date of 1/1/67, which would, to all intents & purposes make it a 1966 build car, which it obviously isn't.
A search on the actual number says its a re-registration with no specific issue date.
Perhaps some nosey so & so could ask the vendor about the commission no.

I'd like to see the front end - may be a mk3 ?

it could'nt of been a tr7 test bed in 1967 though.

Yes but that "mk3" is an F reg...

David Knowles' TR7 book gives a list of 2000s specifically built for use as engine/transmission testbeds for the 'Bullet' project, and all appear to date from about 1972-4, with known registration numbers on L/M/N suffixes. There are also records of another 2000 test car used for both TR7 and SD1 development but that was also apparently on an N-suffix plate. That is not to say, however, that an earlier prototype or works 'hack' might not have ended its days on TR7 development before being disposed of.

I too wonder whether this might perhaps be a 'Mk3' bodyshell - if you look at the the Canley Classics website under Archive > Our Museum > Prototypes > Prototype 2600 MkIII ~2 it states: Quite a few of these painted, and trimmed shells (figures vary from 10 to 20'ish) subsequently got sold to those in the know in experimental for £250, bargain! These guy's subsequently built up the cars using existing identities from donor car's, or registered them as newly built cars.

Does appear to have had an "interesting" history. There are more pictures up. Comms plate seems to indicate a 1967 ish Mk1 in Royal Blue which it clearly isn't, although the plate does appear to have 30 years of dirt on it so not done recently. Maybe a case of "subsequently built up the cars using existing identities"?
Is it me or are there something odd about the bonnet? (I can see the shadow of something left and right hand side)

I don't see anything different to this car.

I'm thinking this is a normal MKII 2000, that someone has bolted the number plates and comm number off a MKI onto.

Buyer beware, I am not convinced of this car's history at all.
