The Triumph 2000 / 2500 / 2·5 Register Forum

At the Spares Group meeting at Stoneleigh this point was discussed at length and the unanimous decision was that half wings were the way to go.

The points made were that:
1. If the arch has gone then the front and rear lower corners will almost certainly be gone and it is silly not to do the job in one hit.
2. If only replacing the arch because the front/rear corners seem OK ...... it is likely that in the future these corners will have to be replaced anyway so have the parts available.
3. If only replacing the arch ..... how far round people want will vary.
4. It is better to have one piece welded in to make a repair rather than three pieces.
5. A weld along a straight line (as in the top of the half wing) is much easier/better than a weld around the corner as in an arch ...... it is shorter as well!
6. It is wholly unrealistic and not cost effective to make lots of sections. Puts up the cost and if a half wing is supplied people can cut off what they want

Lloyd is doing a great job and putting in lots of time and effort - don't make it harder for him than it needs to be.

as you are all aware, i have had the prices and minimum quantities required to enable people to place orders on the Mk2 half front wings, mk1 front half wings and mk1 rear half wings for some time now, i have just been waiting for pre orders to trickle in.



The price will be £310 for each panel (£620 per pair), £ 325 for mk1 and estate rear as they require a bit of hammer forming on the lower rear return, all will be produced on proper 3 part draw tooling which costs £25,000, ( for one tool only ie mk2 front ) 100 units of each ( 200 no 100 l/h and 100 r/h as the tool is double impression ) £ 12,000, both plus vat, this price is in line with the Spares Group meeting at Stoneleigh last year. I am not intending to make any profit on these wings except to cover all my out of pocket expenses. The proper " cast " tool (and the reason for the cost) means that each wing will be an accurate reproduction of the new original Triumph panel that was used as a pattern for the tooling and computer scanned. It is not the mish mash of worn rubber and steel bits and pieces of tooling that some other people use and which can lead to additional charges by a bodyshop of £200 or more to solve the nightmare of getting the panels to fit.




I have a minimum quantity of wings to be ordered which is NOT covered by the present pre-orders. By using the two Forums I can only reach aprox 6% of Triumph owners - I MUST GET THIS INFORMATION TO AS MANY MORE AS POSSIBLE. If you have more contacts (other Clubs, attend meetings etc. etc.) then PLEASE pass on my details all around the world .




I must have a 50% deposit with any order (contact me for the order form) which is non returnable if you cancel your order unless I have someone else who can take your order over. All money will be put into a special account and will be returned if production does not happen.




PLEASE NOTE. It is now over to you whether these panels are made. I have done all i can, spending months on this project and spending thousands of pounds on it. If you don't order in a quantity to make production viable they will not be made. It also means that the other panels I had been planning will also not be made because the money I have invested so far does not leave me with enough spare to do anything more.

i am not looking for thanks or gratitude for what i have done, ive done what ive done because of the love and passion i have for these great cars of ours and because somebody had to do something to save our cars from extinction, because if these panels are not done, that is what will happen in the next ten years, and the prices of our cars have risen rapidly over the last 12 months or so

the most orders i have are for mk2 fronts, closely followed by mk1 rears, so mk2 fronts will be done first, im nearly at 50% requirement, pretty good on the very small media window at my disposal i think, so spread the word triumph lovers, THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN, SO MAKE IT SO PLEASE.

i have to get the panels back to the very kind members that lent them to me / us, and in an ideal world, i would just have them scanned so the manufacturer had them on their computer, allowing no need for them to keep the panels, allowing me to return them to thier owners, but as it costs £600 to scan each panel, need i say more !!!!!

get on the internet please and type in triumph clubs worldwide etc etc nz, austrialia, s africa, france, amercia, belgium, etc etc, send every hit that comes up a short email about the panels with my email on lloyd.reed01@virgin.net, i have spent days doing this, but most of them go via word doc, and im pretty sure mine aint workink properly !!!!!!!! as ive had no replies, only to the one that were sent via my virgin addy.

ive prob rambled on a bit, sorry, long and short of it is, if you want the panels, i need your help, we all know the demand is there, so crack on and make it happen please.

LLoyd has done an absolutely brilliant job here and it is now down to people to stand up and be counted and support him with orders.

For anyone thinking these are expensive please remember a few points:
- Lloyd is doing this as a club enthusiast and is not working on any profit - in fact he is on a loss at the moment.
- I have done some research and for the size of wing that we have this price is very reasonable, for example a Mk4 Cortina full wing costs £450.
- The only other potential source (and we have been spun along that some might be made for some 5 years now to my knowledge) are reported to require a massive amount of work to get them to fit in any sort of way which of course costs loads of extra bodyshop time. The result is also not always the best.
- If your car is needing or getting close to needing wings, if you don't get an order in and support Lloyd you might as well start making plans to scrap your car. If this fails no one else will bother to do this again because there is obviously no market for them in appropriate quantities.
- If your car needs wings and you can't get any it is nearly worthless.
- Also if these wings do not achieve ordering levels then all the other panels would have to be considered not worth making.

Although I don't need any for my Mk2 I am ordering a pair from Lloyd ........ just in case.

just incase something should happen to me whilst im holding all of your monies ( not that it will as i am a picture of health ), ive asked alan chatterton to be a counter signature on my account, allowing him access to the account, so monies can be returned or the monies transfered to another account should someone wish to carry on my work.

bloody hell, reading that back makes it sound like im on deaths door , far from it, i just want to make sure your money is safe !!!!

im off to the bank next week to double check with the manager that all is ok and to get alan put on, i should of done this prior to making the posting the other day, but wasnt quite expecting the rush of members that ive had to be honest offering up thier money, THANK YOU.

yep thats the guys, the last ime i rang them, i was told to ring back on a thursday at 9 am and talk to an old chap called jim ( i think it was ) who would be sat down having his morning cuppa at that time, this i did.

he wasnt, shall we say, very helpfull, but i will give it another go today and see what they have to say, they will prob say, ring back on thursday

thanks for the info regarding the rimmers sill, if im correct, radford panels make rimmers stuff, but i could be wrong. once again i tried to contact them two weeks ago and left a message, once again, no reply !!!!!!!! madness.

please keep us informed on the fitment on the rimmers sill upon doing it, thanks.

there are source for sills still out there as far as i am aware, but getting them produced is another matter !!
i will be taking sills up with me again to the manufactures in the next few weeks, just to see if there is a cheaper way of getting them done, but if i can kick start an existing scorce into doing them, it will be alot cheaper that getting new tooling made.

And to add to this about the sills and mentioned on the CT Forum.

I am chasing down a small stock of cover sills plus a few other bits. IF they materialise (guy who has them has promised he will check his stocks of panels this weekend without fail and get back to me next week) I don't think it will be much but enough to probably keep us going while LLoyd sees if he can sort out something more long term.

Perhaps if they materialise and there is a reasonable number of panels, which would be sold through the Spares Group at a sensible price, this may put pressure on Rimmer/Earlpart to drop their prices for a while .......... now what are those pink pigs doing flying around my 'office'

That would be very interesting Ted.

I will need to 'do' the sills on my PI sometime and I'm quite happy using cover sills, with or without the lower 'extension'. (I cut that bit off anyway). These can be used to repair the sill area 'properly', by using them much as the originals were, repairing both inner layers and putting the outer on. The bit behind the wing has to be sorted Ok, but that isn't too difficult to do.

I accept that this is probably more time consuming than using original parts, but as the time is my own......!

I had a look at Earlparts prices yesterday and was quite surprised - and I don't know if they currently have stocks either.

ted, still sus your supply out please, as the more the merrier as far as im concerned, plus yours may well turn out to be cheaper than the source ive found
