I don't think you need a conversion to change back to leaded fuel again? But I understand there are very few outlets authorised to sell leaded fuel now.
You can apparently buy genuine lead additive, but does that mitigate any effects of the alcohol?

We seem to be up against a new potential problem here, of corrosion from alcohol, nothing to do with either valve recession or pinking?

Just re-read this. Kelly did you mean UN leaded. There is no need to do anything mechanical to revert back to leaded apart from timing but it is a pointless  exercise.

Absolutely agree with Ted and Alan. The convertion to use unleaded is just the same as the repair if there was a problem. So at worst you are delaying the cost, at best avoiding it completely. If you can do the work yourself, the cost would be for hardened seats to be fitted and maybe the purchase of new exhaust valves and guides. And some hours of your time.

This is the approach I've taken and now done a good few 1000s of miles so far with no problem.

However, I think the E10 issue might be a greater one.

Cheers,
Mike.

This is the stuff Clifford referred to: http://tetraboost.com/info/
I used it for a while, but thought it was too expensive so reverted to straight unleaded.
I suspect my mk1 may be suffering from valve recession, but I would put that down to a lot of caravan towing

After reading this article a few years ago I started to use only Esso 97RON petrol in my cars. I had been using V-power/Optimax - after the change starting, especially of the PI, became astonishingly better and several thousand miles later the Triumph is still very happy. It's also worth noting that I don't have a modern car, so between the Triumph & the MG (the latter being my everyday car) I'm often filling up several times a month.

Last year a valve guide came loose in the MG (totally unrelated to the petrol) and I had to remove the cylinder head, I was amazed at how clean the pistons tops and valves were; it certainly reinforced my view of Esso petrol.

Whilst touring Europe earlier in the year I saw plenty of E10 for sale, but all of it was very clearly marked; you'd have as much chance of mistakenly putting it in your car as you would putting diesel in! Thankfully I've never done that!
