I am trying to replace the outer weather strips on the rear doors of my Mk. 2 2000. This necessitates removing the door cards to clip the weather strips on. I am having trouble removing the window winding handle- can anyone tell me how to do this? I\'ve been having a go but can\'t seem to do it and thought it\'d be a good idea to ask rather than wreck the handle or door card in a fit of frustration!!
Cheers.

hold the winder handle, then push on the backing plate,if you then look in between the two you will see a small pin that goes through the handle/winder,you need a long very thin object such as a rivet in width, its a sod on a mk2,much easier on a mk1,you might have to open the window a little so that you can see the pin,you need 3 pairs of hands really!!

Yes- I thought it was along those lines and, yes, I thought it\'d be a sod! Oh well, here goes...!
Cheers.

Hello both, <br>
<br>
there is actually a tool for removing thos epins, but i haven\'t seen
one in a long time. It\'s a cranked flat bar with a \'U\' channel cut into
one end and a steel pin in the centre. I usually use a thin pin punch,
it\'s not too difficult but watch out for where the pin drops to.<br>
JP, that is nothing to the hassle of fitting the outer weather strips,
(if you are talking of the ones that wipe the glass) those clips are
diabolical to fit. I drill the strips every 3 inches or so then locate
them and drill the door and self tap them in place.<br>

Just a question if this is so difficult, how did the factory put them in and get them out? It must have cost a bomb in labour charges. If as Alec says there was a special tool why haven\'t we got it?<edited><editID>Peter Douglas W</editID><editDate>38455.3647916667</editDate></edited>

Hello Peter, <br>
the tool that I know of is for removing the pin, although I haven\'t
seen one for a while. I find inserting the pin quite easy so I imagine
someone fitting them day in day out would be very quick.<br>
