Mk. 2 grille

I have a 1972 built 2000 Mk. 2 saloon (registered in January 1973) with the aluminium grille with closely-spaced bars. I have noticed that some Mk 2 2000s have a different grille, more like a Stag\'s perhaps. Are these later models with a bit of a face-lift or do they indicate a fuel- injected model?.......can anyone fill me in please?
I think they look much better and may try to get one so, in that case, does anyone also know if they will fit my 2000?

Hello Jporter,
I imagine you are talking about the \'S\' grille, I\'m sure that you can find a second hand one quite easily, but I can\'t confirm that they used the same fixings. I would, however, be very surprised if Triumph went to additional expense in altering the mounting points.

But I\'m afraid they did change the mounting points....
You can fit early to late but you run out of mounts fitting late to early

I think later ones come in 5 bits, 1 in the middle, 2 between pairs of lights, 2 outside the lights. The early grille is only held on by 4 screws, not enough to hold on 5 separate pieces.

That\'s interesting- thanks- ...and also means its far too much hassle to fit the \'S\' type grille!!! I\'ll stick with the old one!

Yep!
Pre-facelift cars ( to late 1973) had metal grills and late facelift cars had 5 piece plastic grills and you can\'t (easily) change between the two.
I saw a car once which had a plastic centre with chrome ends, how he fitted it, must have changed the mountings.
My advice, leave alone. If you want to make it look nicer (in my humble opinion) fit a PI grill. It is black with chrome headlight fillets. Looks much nicer than the usually corroded 2000 one!

Great idea- the aluminium 2000 grille on mine is pretty shoddy- are the mountings the same then?

I\'ve got a PI grille on my early MK2 2000 - mountings are the same.

I think these 2 grilles might actually be the same apart from the paint. Not 100% sure as I\'m relatively new to these.
