Triumph 2000 MK1 commision number

Hi from Finland. I have royal blue Triumph 2000 MK1 that my grandparents bought new in 1969. I think the car is a 1968 model though? Can anyone tell me based on serial number MB93321 LDL when car was manufactured? Car is now planned to be dismantled and restored to its original condition but perhabs with a sligtly more powerful engine. Yesterday it was first started after 19 years of storage and transferred today to my garage.
Are there any good tips on how to spice up the original 2l engine, is a 2.5l cylinder head with bigger valves, a TR 6 camshaft, etc. Suitable? Also tips on where to find body repair panels and for examble, a shadow blue carpet set to MK 1. I have also been thinking about installing Rover V8 with ZF 5 speed manual.

Hi Ville,

I'd recommend to order a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate which states the a lot of interesting information from the factory record of the individual car. https://www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk/ar ... rtificates

Regarding tuning measures I'm not an expert, but I' d say the easiest way to gain 10-15 bhp would be to install a complete 2.5 unit (block, head, carbs).

Triumph 2000 Register member Chris Witor has long been providing Triumph parts and recommended tuning modifications based on his own experiences. His website (Technical) may give you useful information depending on what / how you want to modify yours or a 2500 (MM) or 2.5PI (MG) engine.
Is the Mk1 2000 on its original engine? If so, is it an MB or MC engine number? I only ask because the very late Mk1's were fitted with MC engines - I have a 1969 Mk1 with an MC engine, and I have a 1967 with a MB engine, and have previously owned other 2000's with both MB and MC engines, and in my opinion the MC engine is a lot more eager, livelier and revs better, and is more responsive than the MB engine. Just my opinion, as I don't know of any written technical detail of the actual differences that gives this apparant improvement in performance.
However, it sounds like you want to extract more power than the standard engines can provide without serious modification, especially as you have referred to a Rover 3500 V8 with a ZF gearbox.
Chris Witor therefore may be a good starting point in your desire to achieve extra performance from a Triumph engine.
