Sadly a PO removed the inertia switch, so I will just have to be careful to keep the car the right way up….

But as for voltage it’s amazing what soldering new connectors onto the existing wires will do! Maybe I could have avoided new pump spend….

Hi Simon,
There’s a chance that you might have sheared the plastic drive dog between the metering unit and distributor which may explain why you’re getting fuel to the metering unit but not from the injector ports or lines. Unfortunately you’ll have to remove the metering unit from the drive pedestal to check this.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hello Simon,

a good point by Binny, if it has sheared then it is likely the rotor has seized?
If so soaking in petrol or Plus Gas and gently working at turning it should work. Then remove it and ensure every thing is really clean

It is worth fitting an inertia switch, if only for peace of mind. There are second hand ones but a better idea is to use a modern switch. Revington Tr, for example sell such a switch but advise using a relay to minimise the load on that switch.

Thanks all. Metering unit is next on list if pump doesn’t fix it.

Took pressiure release valve off. Seems to move on spring when pushed. Can just about blow air through it by mouth. Little screw doesn’t seem to make a lot of difference, I assume if screwed all the way in it should open the valve a bit?

Hello Simon,

screwing the screw adjusts the spring pressure, more spring pressure equates to a higher fuel supply pressure, as long as the pump is serviceable.

Easier than I expected to dismantle the unit. Middle bit jammed, am soaking in petrol.

Is it supposed to have a piece missing where the drive fits?

And I broke the black diaphragm thingy….hope they sell new ones. If I can free the shuttle I will try and overhaul it all.

I found top dead center, thanks Alec.

Hello Simon,

that would have left the unit on full rich.

New diaphragms are available, Prestige injection is one such specialist that supplies all the spares. Item 5 https://www.prestigeinjection.net/pricecarg.htm. I'm a little surprised at the price but its a good material and there is only a limited market for spares. We just need to be thankful they are available

Thanks to you all for the advice, at least I have found the issue now. I think I’ll be buying a reconditioned metering unit, there is just too much going on with this one.
Even if I can un-gum the core (and it looks seized quite solidly) I can’t see any notice that will tell me which way round the bits I tapped out of the very middle should go back in!

Still, if I can put it back together I might get the exchange deposit back!

Hello Simon,

the TR2000 register sell the Lucas Training Manual for a very low price of £6.50 which has a wealth of information on the injection system.
It is, I found, invaluable and essential if you want to understand and work on it. You'll find it in the Regalia Section of the club website.
