Hello.
I’m about to drill the sills on my car to take the riveted clips for the chrome trims prior to painting but am unsure of a couple of points.
Firstly how far between the front and rear wheel arch should the trim be positioned?
Secondly, which way up should the trim go once fitted - I.e. with the slightly curved ends pointing upwards or downwards?
I’ve looked at photos online but unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a consistent approach to fitting them.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Rather than typing it, I thought it would be simpler to just post a picture from CW's website with all the info you need.
If they are positioned correctly, they should be equidistant between the bottom of the front wheela4ch and the end of the sill by the rear wheel arch. There isn't much wriggle room to incorrectly space them.
They should be fitted like a house roof - not following the shape of the contours of the wing or rear sill.

Re: Sill trims

This MK2 car in this photo was made in Belgium. So, parts used/supplied could have been different from U.K. version.
Round clip OD is 13.9mm. Inner gap ss trim is 13.5mm. Lenght of this ss trim is 68” long.
So, it must have been the parallax?

Re: Sill trims
Thanks for your replies - they’re very helpful and much appreciated.
My trims are 68” long but seem to leave more of a gap at each end than shown in those photos. Are my trims are the right length?

Re: Sill trims
Early Mk1's had a slightly narrower trim than late Mk1 and all Mk2's, but the length I believe is the same.
I'd check which trims you have relative to the rivit clip being correct - early Mk1's required a 1/2" od rivitted clip whereas late Mk1's and all Mk2's required a 19/32" od rivitted clip.
If you have had any sill repair work done, if the profile at the front or rear of the sill by the wheel arch is not as original, this may account for this?

Re: Sill trims
Hi Johnnydog,
The trims were on the car when I bought it more than twenty five years ago so should be original.
I’ve replaced both the sills with those supplied by Lloyd Reid and also the bottom of both the front wings, the drivers side I made myself using the removed section as a profile and the passenger side was one of Lloyd’s wheel arch repair panels.
On reflection I think that it’s just the angle that those photos were taken at that made trims look longer.
Thanks once again for your help.
