Knocking noise front suspension

#1 Post by herald1360 » Sat Mar 15, 2025 10:34 pm

I have a knocking noise on the off side front suspension.
I have fitted a new wheel bearing kit but there is still play and faint knocking noise when rocking the wheel side to side. No play top to bottom.
I think it could be the stub axle, anyone got any ideas?
Many thanks
Paul

Hello Paul,

worn stub axles would usually be evident when fitting new bearings, both visibly and by a slack fit of the inner bearing on the shaft.
There should be some slight play in the front wheel bearings, do not try and completely eliminate the play.
Also have alook at the rubber supension bushes in case that is the source of the noise?

Also Ball Joint, Tie Rod or sleeve bearing in the suspension top mount (though more noticeable when manoeuvring during parking).
