Total RIP OFF!

#1 Post by johnboy » Sun Mar 09, 2025 4:02 pm

Went to order a new bit overflow pipe for my radiator on my 2000 today The price from rimmers was £ 10.92 which I thought was a bit steep but i thought just have to pay. When I went to postage it was a further £ 9.00 a total Rip Off!!!

Chris Witor doesn't even list the pipe.

Does anyone know where you can get it without paying crazy prices ? Cheers Johnboy.

Hi Johnboy,
The pipe you are referring to does get brittle over time. I have seen it replaced by clear plastic pipe which is probably a softer compound, but the warmth under the bonnet can result in the pipe kinking on the curve from the radiator panel to the overflow bottle.
If you can get a used but original pipe, then I would strongly suggest you buy that.
Andy Harrison in the Register from Devon has a lot of used spares - may be worth a call.
Failing that, I will have one, but I will not be able to sort one out for you until mid April.
If you can't get Andy's number, then PM me and I will send it to you.
I don't use Rimmers personally, but the original pipe isn't very flexible which may account for the higher postage price assuming theirs is of the same compound as the original. I would however still go for a good used original one though as I can't see a modern replacement being as good quality.

Its not specifically a Triumph part you need, just measure the ID of the original pipe, and order the length you need from a hose/tube stockist, for example....

Couple of quid should sort it.
