2000/2.5/Stag Rear Cylinder Tool

#1 Post by Richard B »

If anyone else like me struggles to fit the E Clip on the rear wheel cylinders.
This tool makes it so much easier. I've just changed the cylinders on the Stag.

It looks like a decent tool if you feel the need for it - in the 44 years of Triumph ownership, and the countless number of wheel cylinders I've changed, I've never actually had a problem re / fitting the clip. If the backplate is not crusty and the cylinder fits totally flush, and the groove for the clip is totally visible, the cylinder is seated correctly. I fit the clip concave side facing to the centre of the car, place one side and the top in position, pushing them into their respective sides of the groove with the aid of a flat screwdriver, and using the same screwdriver simply gently lever the clip slightly so it is under tension around the brake pipe union, and then push the unclipped side towards the back plate until it clicks into position in the groove.
Simples!

If you are struggling refitting the clip, you need a tea and biscuit break, and when you go back to it, the clip will go on first time, and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about!!!!

John you are absolutely correct! In the 50 + years of owning Mini(van)s and big Triumphs,I have lost count of the number of clips I have fitted! I have had the occasional clip send me on a treasure hunt in it's bid to escape, hence I have about a half dozen new spares. As you say, if the groove is visible, and backplate clean it's game on ! Nothing to fret about!!!!
