I am thinking, as i do seem a little ' where am i ' with the car right now - not forgetting it still has this ' i dont want to go above 45 ish mph issue - is it the box, a fuel issue., me being too prudent... the going around in circles scenario.... i need some more hands on expert advice from guys that know these cars well. Thinking back, i believe there are a couple of members maybe 50- 60 miles away from me . I will try and see if i can source them out , offer to pay expenses to come down and go through the car. I really do think i need a datum point to start from again.

I don't know how far you are from Truro, Stuart at Watermill Carriage Co Ltd is a TR specialist though and should be able to help you.

If ever there was a cliche for ' its a small world ' that was it - Ian, after reading your suggestion earlier, then googling it, that premise is like less than half a mile from where i am currently working.......do you know him / the firm personally?
I did fire it up again this eve. Basically, i wanted another shot at starting her up, as like a modern, the following day, after last nights run.....so i did basically the same - wound her over a couple of times, pulled out the choke, another churn over and same as last night the oil light went out at the same point she fired and ran ..... smooth as, with no rattle.....so i am Almost convinced now that it was down to a sxxxe filter.....

So - with renewed excitement that i may be actually getting somewhere , i started playing with the S.U.s.... we already know, from the condition of the plugs, that the front carb is pretty much ok. Rear carb running rich ( rear bank of 3 much blacker than front 3). So this eve after having another successful start - as in no rattle- lets have a play with the s.u. air valve pins once up to temp. The following however, is with the elephants trunk STILL on - it was only a kind of look see type of thing. Lifting the front carb pin as high as i could ( not the 2mm as per haynes) the engine fluttered a tad but remained running. When i lifted the rear carb pin - instant engine stall. Cut out, stop. Now according to Haynes, that is the complete opposite to what should happen - ' if when the air valve is raised, the engine speed decreases or stalls, the mixture is weak'....
So i SEEM to have a situation where according to the plugs the front carb is good, rear carb is rich - but the complete opposite with the air valves !!! So i do now assume it is probably miles out of tune, one way or another, so thats my next big tackle.

I don't know Stuart personally but he is a long term and very active member of the TR-Register forum, I would have no qualms about using him as he is clearly very knowledgeable.
