Hello again
A couple of people have mentioned my engine tilts back towards the bulk head a little, I didn’t notice anything different until it was mentioned and now it’s bugging me...
It’s a mk2 2.5PI which I believe should have had an overdrive box but now doesn’t (just a normal 4 speed box) would this make a difference or has anyone else got a reason as to why or are they all like that!?
Many thanks in advance
Sal
Engine tilt !
Re: Engine tilt !
Is it to clear the suspension cross member ?
Re: Engine tilt !
Hi Valencia;
Nope the engine is already in, it just looks tilted to the back/bulk head!

Hi Sal,
IMO the cyl 1 end is approx a couple of inches higher than the cyl 6 side.
Best,
Thorsten

Re: Engine tilt !
That is correct. They do tilt backwards.

Re: Engine tilt !
Charles and Thorston are correct - all the engines whether a 2000 or 2.5 etc all tilt backwards and to one side.
One thing to check however is the gearbox mounting in the rear cross member - if that has collapsed or sunk / disintegrating due to oil contaminatination, then the engine will sit slightly lower at the gearbox end, and the rocker cover will be very close to the sound deadening pad. If the mounting is ok, there should be about 1" or so gap between the rocker cover and the pad, although on different models, the spacers between the body and cross member itself will affect this slightly.
I have recently replaced the mounting on my 1973 PI, and the rocker cover sits a comfortable 1" from the pad.
