Going for twin webers

#1 Post by GSouthee » Tue Jan 19, 2021 7:08 pm

Just ordered twin weber 32/36dgv setup for the 2.6 engine.

Should give me a few more horses.

Anyone gone this route?

Hi, I have not so cannot comment but I was curious as to which manifold you will use, it sounds like an interesting conversion.

G,
The carbs you are talking about are downdraft units, all the Six engines as far as I know run on sidedraft, whether injection, Strombergs, S.U.s ,HS4 or HS6.,and Webers,40,45,48 DCOE.
As Michael says, it will be interesting to see how they perform. For the size and tune you are talking about, have you considered a pair of downdraft 38DGAS or DGMS Webers. This 38 series delivers uniform fuel delivery's both chokes open together, as opposed to the 32/36 which opens "stepped",one choke ,then the other. Having used both 32/36 and 38 DGAS on an engine , the 38 DGAS wins hands down for power and delivery.MPG also not too different, depending on right foot!!!.Just a thought, do you have room for the extra height of the downdraft set up? Whichever you choose, please keep us all informed of your progress, good luck!
Bill.

Hi Guys

Yes I did think about 38's but decided on the 32/36's for a more progressive application of fuel, also these are easy to alter the position the second choke to bring them in earlier, I did this on my Rover V8 with twin Dgv's.

I am using the pierce (USA) manifold adaptors, these are like those for the TR6 as sold by various suppliers ie scparts, webcon, aldon etc. However these are slightly shorter.

The TR6 ones do fit the 2500 saloon but I am told you may need to knock a clearance dimple in the inner wing. Luckily not a problem in my AC.

Here is a pic of engine bay with the SU's in place.

Cheers G

Heres a pic or 2 of carbs fitted.

Just waiting for a couple of Webcon plenums to fit cold air pipes to.

Oh and Y piece for the fuel pipes then I'll start her up and fine tune carbs.

My Vitesse 1600 has twin down draughts fitted from the factory, Solex carbs if I remember rightly, I fitted a side draught twin coke Webber which made a small difference, only improved once I fitted free flow and a sportier exhaust system. :)

Hi Guys

Finally had the car out on a run. Took a while as had to wait for wings to be repaired.

Have to say the Webers run fantastically from cold and when hot.

I had to advance the timing a touch, as recommended by Redline Weber.

Picks up much more responsively than the SU's, also great at low to mid range acceleration. The tick over is smoother as the SU's did not like the lumpy cam.

They also have a nice sound at tick-over and as increase in revs, a touch more throaty than the SU's.

Very easy to install and set up, just a screw driver and a hose.

Going to be pout and about tomorrow on classic drive it day so will have a bit more of a run, then off to Suffolk next weekend.

All good so far.
