Tatton Park - Classic and Performance Car Spectacular June 2018
As the title suggests, the Lancashire Group of the Register are arranging the club display at the above show at Tatton Park, near Knutsford, Cheshire on June 2/3rd 2018.
It is different organisers this year; the running having been taken over by Mortons Media Group, although I think the previous company Cheshire Auto Promotions are still having a hand in it for the time being.
The Register have secured a plot allocation, so I am now taking details of those who want to attend. I need vehicle and owner details, and preferred day of attendance (Sat or Sun, or both!). There is no charge for passes, but if you wish to camp there is a £10 charge for the whole weekend (Fri to Sun) payable on arrival.
Reading their blurb, there are few changes which hopefully will ensure the smooth running of the event. It is normally well attended both days, so I need details sooner rather than later please.
As always, a reminder that NO PASS, NO ENTRY!!

Thanks very much to all members of the Register I met at the stand on Saturday, giving me some very welcome information about these cars. Special thanks to John, who was extremely helpful in talking me through common problem areas while physically pointing them out on the cars assembled there. I definitely learnt a lot... and it hasn't put me off these big saloons!

No problem Will - it was good to put a face to the username! Seeing cars in the flesh and their weak areas rather than just reading about it is infinitely better to help you in your search for the 'right' car! There are plenty members on here to help you out with any queries about these cars, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I've thought some more about the white one for sale in our sunny Lancashire, but have decided not to go check it out. The main reason is that purely aesthetically I prefer the more Stag-like front of the post '74 facelift cars (similar to the black radiator grille front of the earlier PI, I think... !), even if Triumph used thinner metal for the body panels on these later cars.
I'm also not a fan of wing mirrors, which the white 2000 has. I realise of course that these can be removed, the holes repaired and repainted, but if at all possible I'd like to start out with a car that doesn't require this. It has taken me years to acquire a garage; I'm now in no rush to fill it but prefer to wait until the right car comes along.
Finally, I thought I'd share a photo of a nice 2500S (showing the kind of front I'm after ) that was not at the stand of the Register, just in case people missed it:

This Russet 2500S in the photo was owned by Lancashire Group member Norman Adams, which he sold in September last year after it was on the Manchester Group stand at Event City. It is generally a good car - it's had some work, and the new owner has also rebuilt the gearbox and bottom end of the engine after he bought it. Unfortunately, he will not join the Register dispite Norman saying it was pre requisite of the sale!
Not to worry about the white one in Blackburn. If you are prepared to wait, eventually the right car will come along. I know where you are coming from with the appearance of the front end on facelift models, but the best looking front end (in my opinion) is the prefacelift Mk2 PI with the black grill..... I also think the rear end on the PI and the S with the black panel looks better than models without it.
If you see anything that is of interest to you, don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

My only problem I have with the black rear panel is that they rust underneath.
Had an S and had to replace the complete panel on it for this reason. didn't notice the rust until I took the black one off for a cleanup. Beware

Interesting to hear Tony. Not entirely surprising I guess. Like John, I like the look of these panels as well. Are they easily removed? Am wondering whether I should pack a screwdriver and have a look when inspecting a car for sale...

Every triumph rusts there then, because the number plate is put there on the 2000. The Pi and S should have mastic pads behind to hold it away from the body work to stop the vibration. Doubt if the dealers did that with the reg plates.

Of all the PI' s and 'S' s that I have scrapped over the years, and on my current fleet, none have had any form of insulation material behind the black panel.
They are held on by mini plastic expansion rivits. Rather than take the panel off, I have just removed the inner boot trim, and applied a thin penetrating rust fluid to the rear of the rivits and removed and lubricated the number plate fasteners and the adjacent metalwork of the rear panel with fluid such as Supertrol which is very penetrating.
I also apply some to the lip at the bottom of the light panel where it is spot welded to the rear valence. They are notorious for rusting on this seam.
When I did this on my 'S' , a couple of weeks or so later, the fluid emerged through the seam which indicated that the gap was protected as best as possible. Years later, the seam is still rust free.
