After having my tyres replaced on Saturday I can say I am impressed so far.

I changed from the standard 175's for 2500s alloys for 185/70/14.

I went for yokohama A-Drive tyres, £200 fitted and balanced for 4.

They seem quieter on the Dual Carriageway, and appear to be quite grippy in the dry.

Also they look better from the rear, being slightly wider but don't look 'over tyred' from the side profile.

less steering wheel vibration too (although this could have been down to unbalanced wheels)

so far so good.....

oh yes, the date codes on my old tyres were 1980 & 1986 respectivley....

You went for the Yoko Onos then?

Do they pass the squeal test?

I resurrect this post with interest - Owen put ' my standard S alloys had 175's.... my S alloys have fitted 195/70/14's,which were fitted in 2007....only 50ish miles covered,so now out of date,so need replacement technically. Have recently purchased a set of minilights in anthracite without tyres,and they recommend 185/65/15 boots.... any thoughts/advice if this is correct?

Vredestein 185/70/15 work well,with 6 inch rim you 195/65 is possible,any wider may cause clearance issues etc,

I use 195/60/15 Firestones on minilites on my 2500, and the rears just fit inside the wheelarches!

I have 195/65/15s on some 6" wide Wolfrace slot mags and they are snug too. Offset of the wheel is the biggest issue.
S alloys are only 5.5" wide so 195/70/14s on these aren't so close to the arch.
Our MOMOs are 6" wide too and with 195/70/14s they are pretty close to the arch too, so the tyre width isn't the major issue.

Ok,thanks for the opinions guys. I do trust my tyre guy to get it 'right',been with him for years and he knows his stuff but I just thought I'd put it out there. I do seem to recall when he fitted the set to the 'S' wheels all that time ago he did seem to struggle a bit with that particular size - not a lot of options,at that time,allegedly....So it is good to know there are proper tyre brands out there that will fit. I am a bit of a stickler on tyres - I don't like the cheaper stuff,i like good tyres

As a side thought with the closeness to the arch - as a total rear end rebuild is on the go,with everything replaced,i should have no 'sag' anywhere (unless I forget to tighten up a couple of bolts here and there ) so hopefully I can fit the slightly wider size and be ok. May not of been able to achieve that before,with all the perishibles um - perished

I'm on Stag steel rims with Vredestein Quatrac3 tyres, 185/70 R14 - very happy, plenty of grip in both dry and wet conditions

If you're buying tyres outright and having someone fit them for you there are few cheaper than Camskill

Mmm... never heard of them,interesting site.... My guy has quoted around £230.00 for a set of 185/65/15 Miche's,fitted so to be fair I think that is a good price

I'm on Stag steel rims with Vredestein Quatrac3 tyres, 185/70 R14 - very happy, plenty of grip in both dry and wet conditions

Only problem is, they haven't lasted very long...perhaps that's because they are a M+S tyre. Anyway, they need replacing and so after some research I'm going with these:

Continental Eco Contact 5 185/70 T14 (88)

After I made my choice Maidenhead Tyres told Summit Motors that the Continental, in their opinion, is the best of the bunch, so that was pleasing to hear.
