Hi Lee,
The temp gauge is working fine just the fuel level indicator that is not. Does the unit have to be taken out of the dash to get at the resistor?,if so,what is the method of removal. I have got a replacement resistor.
Cheers for the pos comments,
Laurence

Hello Laurence,

you need to go to the boot and remove the trim covering the fuel tank, once removed you will see the sender and it's wires.

There should be three wires, disconnect the green/black wire and connect directly to the black (earth) wire, with the ignition on, the fuel gauge should read full, if not the fault is from the gauge to the wire you are shorting to earth. If it does read full the sender is at fault. It is possible that the white/green wire and the green/black are mixed up and on the wrong terminals. If you get a full reading by shorting the sender wire to earth, try swapping the two wires. (The black should be obvious going to a terminal welded to the sender body, i.e no insulation around the terminal.)

All,
Following on from last time. After the third filter was found to beblocked i decided that there had to be a better way. I sourced a good replacement tank and this was installed with a new sender unit from Mr W. The original was in a poor state, as was the tank, clearly 30 odd years of doing nothing had taken its toll.. ,-an inch of fine rust particles and what seemed like congealed mud was evident on the bottom of it, certainly not fit for purpose. I will be cleaning it up and generally making good so it may well see action again.
Other issues have concerned the electrics notably the coil and some of the wiring. The coil gets very hot on the block and i am thinking it might be better located where the battery used to be,(that is now in the boot), we shall see next week. Other than that it seems to be running well and i'm sure it will get me up to Northumberland,-only 400 odd miles from Torquay!. Some photos are attached of a recent run over Dartmoor,
cheers,
Laurence
