speedo cable
You will all probably think why!! but if trying to fit speedo cable to gearbox end on overdrive mk1,by feel only, where will I find it I do not have a lot of room for jacking at the moment. Is the end on drivers side.

Re: speedo cable
Hi Bill,
Yes, I think it's on the Driver's side. You've got an 'A' type? I'd have to go and have a look to be sure where it comes out, it ought to be in the parallel bit of the overdrive casing, aft of the cone shaped bit. What wonderful descriptions!
There should be an angle drive on the gearbox end of the cable too.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: speedo cable
Just out of interest, trouble started with a waving needle, always with cecil, and tripometer did not work, had original speedo which came with the car repaired, and after a while, speedo stopped working but mileometer and trip worked.
Ordered new cable from cw,and on measuring the inner wire OF THE OLD ONE,found it to be 12 inches longer than correct 48 inches of new one.which makes it left hand drive. odd
Also found that locating whole for cable in first speedo is almost full of what can only be broken cable. .
Did you follow that,or are you as confused as I am

Re: speedo cable
Not the cable!!!!!! If the cable has broken, then the speedo and mileometer et al will not work. The only 'power' to it is a mechanical one from the cable. The only other input to the unit is a backlight from the lighting circuit. Your problem lies within the speedo unit itself, not the cable.

Re: speedo cable
The speedo is ok,i have tested it in isolation.I have also found when under the car that the angle drive is missing, this may account for someone fitting a longer drive cable, but making for a very acute angle for the drive at the gearbox. While I appreciate that this may not be the reason for the problem,i will return to standard anyway. Has anyone got an angle drive for an A overdrive box,i can purchase.

BW35 autoboxes have an angledrive as well, not sure if they are the same, they look similar.

Re: speedo cable
Hello Bill,
having had failures of the angle drive in the past and their relatively high cost I do not use them any more. However I drill a hole in the gearbox tunnel so the cable goes directly into the cabin without an acute turn.
