I have also got some far more extreme front seats recently, but more on those and their use in the future.

Tis now!

Hooray! Both in and fully bolted down, carpet cleaned and refitted, tidied up, so very nearly finished, just need to replace the board hiding the wires under dash, but seeing as I still have to replace fuel gauge glass, that can wait until that's done.

Got to say they do look rather nice in place.

I can't comment on the works of the A type overdrive as I've only ever had J types.

On later cars, which is possibly similar on earlier Mk2s, the cable to the gearbox runs down the front bulkhead inside the engine bay, to the near side of the engine and gearbox. There is a set of Lucar connections just before it disappears into the gearbox tunnel. On my car, overdrive problems were contributed to by poor continuity at the Lucar connections, not helped by them being located directly under one of the drain holes for the heater air intake under the front screen. In my case, the clue was that the reverse lights, served by the same supply cable via a switch on the gearbox, were not keen to operate either.

If your back's bad, it's relatively easy check / quick fix!

Well it appears to have fixed itself! Just been out for a quick spin, and it's engaging and disengaging again with no problems.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say a dodgy relay connection as I'd been ferreting down by the fusebox to replace a fuse I blew removing the clock.
