Hello Alec,

Certainly rather less than the 160bhp quoted for the MkVII Jaguar, albeit from an engine of not much more than half the capacity - in fairness, however, no idea as to how heavy the Bristol might have been relative to the Jaguar. In the (possibly rather more sporting) tune sold to AC, I believe an output of ca 125bhp was claimed, which is not too far off that supposedly offered by the larger (2.6-litre) and more sophisticated LB6 engine in the original Aston DB2/4. Either sporting drivers in those days made do with less, or (brake) horses just ain't what they used to be...

Hello Jonathan,

yes, the engines A.C. used were more powerful, I don't know what the Bristol weighs, but I would guess at least a ton and a quarter, despite an aluminium body, probably more. They were fairly aerodynamic however and should do about 110 mph. A lovely bit of engineering.

Just as an aside, a nice green Spitfire mk3 seems to have taken up residence in my village and seems to be in regular use. For such a tiny village it has more than its fair share of classics, the place is overun with moggie minors...........

Saw a mark 3 Cortina, the coke bottle style one, around Oxford yesterday. You used to see these all over the place, now they seem to have all disappeared.

I saw a pi, 2000 saloon and an 'S' estate, not to mention a Bentley S2 (I think), just at one house near Oxford.
I am cheating a bit, board meeting at the Hathaways, David has the Bentley and many other classics.
It may be easier to list the car clubs that he and Carole are not members of.

On the drive down to Stoneleigh Saturday, we saw a P6 rover on the top of a large (mixed) car transporter and a few minis heading north, one in particular a 'Radford Deville' being attended to at the side of the road.
Don't know why I recognised that

Yes, that's a shame Rob. We were there in the blue PI parked next to Colin's red 'S' estate. Maybe we spoke, but the problem was that I left my Register name badge at home and Amanda didn't have a spare. My fault of course.

Next time maybe!

Cheers,
Mike.
