I've read much of the AROnline stuff - fascinating reading...

Yes it is a phenomenal site, although in its early days i had to correct a fair amount of the Triumph and modern day MG-Rover stuff. I know Keith Harris who runs it from another forum and have passed on some of Dad's experiences of working at Longbridge which has been included on the site.

I have just noticed this thread...

I find it very very upsetting to see good cars destroyed like this, if the cars are scrap then I don't see the harm and as has been mentioned these cars have yielded lots of bits. Not all banger racers destroy rare cars, I bought Stanley Unwin's MK1 from a banger racer who decided it was too good to wreck. Where did all those MK1 PIs come from though? Very, very sad...

You can't know him that well - he's called Keith Adams :D and happens to be a very good friend of mine! (Which is why my tatty old SD1 got to be car of the month sometime last year! )

Didn't Top Gear try to jump a load of cars with an Allegro going backwards..... from what I remember it landed on top of an Austin Princess, and that is a hugely better car than people realise - I've driven one and I can only fault it being heavy to steer - but so is the Triumph 2000 without power steering.

This seems to have gone a little off topic...... the bottom line is if you want to ensure the safety of your classic car from legal banger racers then you don't sell it. It's the only way!

I assume this is Keith Adams of Practical Classics fame. Wasn't he having an SD1 restored in Poland or one of the Eastern Block countries? If I'm right what happened to that because as a feature it seemed to go off the radar, and I've not seen a lot from him lately if at all.

When you look at it

Any kind of motorsport is killing a car

My mate races tr6s , it has fiber glass panels and highly uprated engine , rollcage uprated suspension ect

this is now now a small fraction of a tr6 , it's not standard and it has a big chance of crashing and that's one more classic to the scrap yard , but I don't see you complaining

I'd like to state I'm sourcing a triumph 2000 shell for drifting in the British drift championship , I have a skyline that I want to drop engine and suspension into , just hope I'm not also scum of the earth

It's nowhere close - banger racing is pretty much all about smashing a car up - how many come out unscathed?

Circuit racing of course has it's dangers but generally most of the cars finish without harm and if they do are usually repaired.
