Sorry both but no.

Have you Googled 'Kentish Border" - a clue is there in almost the first search. Remember these were private entries and again remember my early clue of 3 cars (motor sport people should know this one).

Something to do with Kentish Border Car Club then...... but I don't know the connection with 3 cars.

Guessing they were private entries, all from this same club?

Sorry to be late with this - had a load of things to do for WCR40.

Alan you are close enough and it is obviously not FEV1H so it was the other cars.

The Maxi, SAAB and Venturer were the Kentish Border Car Club team - one of the six Club Team Entries.

The reason I found it astonishing was that in 1970 there were very few World Cup cars around in a fit state to show. I had a devil of a job finding the 4 on display - and the fact that all three cars from one of the private teams survived and that quite by chance I had them on display I found freakish.

As far as I am aware they are still the only full team of cars surviving and able to be driven though I would love to be proven wrong. Apart from that there are only the Triumphs of which four of the team of five that was entered as the Manufacturers Team still survive, and the Land Crabs of which there are still 3 (possibly 4) of the team of 5.

I had better keep my head down after that one :? and hand it over to Alan.

I feel a little dishonest about winning that, 'cos I did google Kentish Border as Ted suggested...................

Anyway, something a little easier I think.

Name the first production car, available in the UK, with ABS brakes as standard on all models..............

Hello Alan,

the Jensen FF was probably one of the first British cars to have anti lock brakes, but I don't remember if the other models subsequently had this feature. If, as I suspect, this is not the answer you want then I'm guessing that it will be too 'modern' a car for my knowledge.

I seem to remember Audi being fairly quick off the mark with ABS but I suspect it was somebody like Mercedes? Not discounting the Jensen FF of course which had an earlier system.
I remember the Audi magazine ads at the time, which had about 100 stills arranged in sequence of a driver's foot pumping the brake pedal, up down, up down, and the tagline was something like "Audi ABS does this 100 times a second because you can't" or similar.

Ford Granada from 1985 onwards I think....

I seem to remember a lot of publicity about the whole range having ABS as standard.

Hello all,

going a little off thread; I was watching a news report recently about the severe weather in which a newish Mercedes coupe was sliding gently down hill, front wheels locked and on full left lock. Due to the road camber the car was sliding rightwards until it met a parked car.
It would seem that even with ABS, wheels still lock up in exceptional circumstances. Perhaps the driver (In reality, he was more a passenger) was unaware that was the case but had he lifted his foot off the brake there would have been a chance to have avoided the bump.

Hi Alec,
Indeed, ABS is useless where there is no traction at all and actually increases braking distance.

Something to remember if you have a four wheel drive car.

Some basic maths:

Where there is some grip .......... 4 x 1 = 4
Where there is no grip (such as ice) ..... 4 x 0 = 0

There were some very expensive four wheel drive cars being driven around recently (both on the News and what I have seen on the roads around here) with presumably educated people in them who seemed to have forgotten this basic bit of maths ............
