MkI Leather Seats refurbishment

#1 Post by Richard B » Thu Jan 26, 2023 11:25 pm

Any suggestions or recomendations (of comapanies/suppliers) on getting a pair of front seats refurbished for my MkI PI.

Currently in tan leather, but they are worn and the stiching is breaking. Shame no-one seems to supply a kit.

ps I do not want to fit non-OE seats if at all possible.

Hi, I recently looked for someone that would do a repair on my vinyl driver seat cover, but as you say not much about. Aldridge Trimming offer complete vinyl covers for the 2000 seats, but a pair is pushing £500. They say they have specialists that can trim to customers requirements including leatherwork, but were not interested in doing any repair work for me. Most of my seat was OK, so I think I can do an invisible repair myself and have a decent spare while I get round to it. I have removed the cover which was well bonded to the internal foam, so needs patience and care to remove them from the actual seat. They are built to last, but any significant damage is a challenge to repair, not just a case of stitching in a new piece of leather, otherwise I would have used some from spare rear seats I have.

I have just had a pair of Alfa 156 seats retrimmed in leather, cost was £800, chap is in Kettering. I previously used him to retrim my Mk1 GT6 seats in leather too.

Pete,

I do know someone near SevenOaks Kent who does seat repairs. He replaced the piping and a couple of pieces in my Stag seats. Let me know if you ar interested and I will dig up his details.

I've seen the Aldriudge kits and would be tempted if they did leather. I'll give them a try. They have done good work for me before, MkI PI steering wheel and a Stag Dash, although not sure if they still do these.

Hi Richard,
I have just looked in that area - was it RJ Turner Car Trimming ? If so, the Website Gallery shows some impressive work, but good to get a review from personal experience. I have several other front seats that all need more repair work than I can tackle. They are Mk2 Black Vinyl, might get in touch to see if they are interested.
