I took Pete's instructions and some nuts & bolts to my local Engineering chap, he decided to make the sleeves from tubing, tapped to suit at one end, looks good but time will tell.

Smart job, better than the 'Rustic' look of the original, but give it it's due, it did the job. Keep us posted when you put it to the test and hopefully it will perform as well as it looks.
