Boot Carpet Panels

#1 Post by v8sam » Thu Nov 14, 2019 7:48 pm

Hi all,
(Edit) These panels are for pre facelift cars, i.e vertical spare wheel.
Currently making new carpet panels for the boot of my Mk1. I haven't been able to find any of these for sale or even any dimensions so I thought that it would be a good idea to make templates to work from for anyone else struggling to find them. I've attached the templates for the RHS and LHS of the boot, I'll attach the ones for the rest of the panels when I get them finished.
Also, does anyone know what these were originally made from. They look like 3mm card altough they aren't hardboard like the rest of the interior ones

Feel free to print these off if you want, I just hope that the dimensions are visible! If not, please let me know and I'll try to fix them.

Thanks, Sam

Hello Sam,

Thye are some sort of fibreboard, I think Woolies or similar trim specialists sell it. I believe it's known as mill board?

The spare wheel cover is moulded, not flat. How do you reproduce that?

Hi Clifford, mine is a post face lift, so the spare wheel is in the floor. Not sure how I'd go about making the cover for an earlier one. Any ideas?

I believe they would have been heat moulded. One could do the same if a shape near enough diamentially was utilised/made and then a sufficient enough steam/heat unit might be available for hire to complete the job. Personally, I would try to do a wood mould and fibre glass.

Hi Kev, thanks for the info. I'll probably leave that job up to someone else to try in the future
