Mk 1 cylinder head identification

#1 Post by Joe Wright » Mon Aug 08, 2022 5:34 am

Hello everyone. I am having difficulty identifying the head on my 63 Mk1. I can see the engine number which is MB39154HEBW but I can't find a cylinder head number anywhere. The only other stamped number I can see on the block is what looks like 0647.
Has anyone got any ideas?
Many thanks
Joe

I think it is the 514271 head. It is identified by the circular push rod sleeves and the thin section to secure under the manifolds. These I believe are the same for all the early cars with this type of manifold.

Mk1 2000 cylinder heads all look the same with the externally visible push rod tubes.
According to the official parts book for high octane fuel (ie UK markets).....
Up to chassis no. MB13750, they had a lower compression ratio of 8.5 to 1, which was part no. 512826.
From MB13751, the cylinder head had a higher compression ratio of 9 to 1, which was part no. 514740.
Why do you actually want to identify which head you have?

Thankyou. I was just interested to be honest. Trying to learn bits about the car. I have mountains of history but couldn't find the head number.

Those numbers in my last post are the Triumph part numbers - there may be a separate 'head' identification number, but I haven't any info about that.
