Help, ive overfilled carbs with oil

Hey Johnnydog and Charles H, I'm stripping and cleaning said carbs and it iooks like i need two new new diaphragms they're split. turning carbs upside-down to reveal the float bowls. there's the bottom of the main jet in brass sticking through the float bowls i took the float bowls off, and there is all manner of dried petroleum and dried crud. What i did notice though, one of the float bowl shutoff needle pins were stuck in so I've soaked in petrol for a bit, i know you've said aftermarket one's aren't that great but what do i do if they are not fit for purpose because these look like whats causing my running issues! also looks like the rubber O rings will need replacing they look tired, cracked and stretched.

Carb cleaner in an aerosol is good for cleaning carb parts, and may help to remove this crud easier than petrol?
The diaphrams are available to buy from various outlets, but make sure you get the correct size - they are available for 150 and 175 CD carbs. Overhaul kits are available from Burlen Fuels, and although it will be a Zenith kit, it will contain new float valves. I would try to resurrect your originals before fitting the replacements - just after the experiences I encountered with new replacements in my own cars. The kits should come with the necessary O rings that are compatible with unleaded and ethanol fuels.
Alternatively, Chris Witor does the gasket and O ring kit for CD carbs, part no. 514470RM, at a reasonable £5.00 (plus VAT and postage). His replacement float valves, if yours are not serviceable, part no 513702 at £7.00 each ( plus VAT & postage), are currently out of stock, although he has the Viton tipped version, part no. 513702V at £17.75 each (plus Vat and postage), although I have not had any experience of using this type.
Hopefully, you can clean your existing float valves and reuse them. As long as the pin moves freely, and when shut, you can't blow through them, with the tab gap on the float correctly set, they should theoretically be reuseable.

I have been cleaning with stp carb cleaner (well the carbs, not me!) I have ordered a set of gaskets, o rings, diaphragms, and float bowl needles just in case. The float needles them selves after soaking in carb cleaner don't feel to bad, when put back into the carb and turned the right way up, one does stick a bit, perhaps another soaking needed although if I shake or gently tap it easily releases that one, better than before the soak, the other seems fine. I'm gonna try the originals first and when I get dirty mits on the new parts I'm gonna rebuild and fire the girl up with some decent 99ron and hope it will cure her running issues.

Whilst you have them in bits, it may be worth replacing the needles and jets. Any wear in Stromberg carbs isn't always obvious to the naked eye; SU needles and jets are more prone to visible wear than Strombergs due to the spring bias of the needles.

My only problem now is the float is sticking on the floatbowl wall. with the aid of the triumph workshop book, the ringbinder thick book. New diaphragms, gaskets, float needles and O rings have arrived. one jet had a had a washer missing, also my problem is this the book says the float bowl optimum height is 14 -15mm. the float, if bent to that measurement is hitting the float bowl wall any ideas? Also now waiting for the new needles and jets hopefully arriving Monday

The tab is the only part of the float that should be adjusted. Make sure the spindle / pin that the float pivots on is correctly located. Have the same alloy washers been placed under the float valve on reassembly - there are various thicknesses? When adjusting the float tab, ideally the carbs should be positioned upside down so that the tab fully shuts off the valve pin, and then the measure the height of the base of the float, adjusting this tab if the height isn't within the 14 /15mm. There is no other particular reason why the float should contact the bowl if everything is reassembled correctly.

These are the set I got i ordered x2 from classic carbs I typed in stromberg cd150 and I thought I'd ordered the right ones not sure if they are, need to speak Monday to swap or get money back if cant get right parts on a swap ill speak with Burlen
